The Mechanic II is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnostic and repairs of cars, trucks, trailers and off-road equipment including aerial lifts and digger derricks. This individual will perform maintenance and repairs to equipment per the manufacturers guidelines to ensure safety and reliability to the equipment. A perfect candidate for this position would be an individual with a great attitude along with a passion for automotive work.
Normal Day-to-Day Work
Use experience in powertrain, suspension, electrical systems, hydraulic systems and ANSI guidelines as related to aerial lifts and digger derricks and visually inspect them.
Use knowledge of DOT inspections and FMCSA guidelines.
Operate various types of equipment such as track-hoe, aerial lift, and digger derricks.
Perform all preventative maintenance and repairs to aerial lifts and derricks.
Make recommendations for changes or additional programs needed to improve the Cooperative’s fleet operations.
Maintain the preventative maintenance programs regarding vehicle maintenance and repair.
Promote an effective member and public relations program through community participation and involvement.
Maintain and repair cars, trucks, trailers and off-road equipment in a safe, efficient, quality minded and customer focused manner.
Perform final operation test on all vehicles and equipment to quality check all repairs.
Provide necessary information and monthly reports for tracking operational and maintenance cost.
Perform work as required with specialized equipment such as A/C refrigerant – recovery-reclaim units, torches, computerized engine analyzers, etc.
Operate various hand and power-driven shop tools.
Provide and coordinate emergency services for the cooperative vehicles and equipment as required.
Maintain the service garages and assigned areas in a neat, clean and safe manner.
Perform all duties included in the Mechanic I position.
Job Qualifications - Here are a few skills you MUST have to be considered for this position.
High school graduate or equivalent; technical vocational or trade school diploma or degree in automotive truck and/or heavy equipment service repair highly desirable.
Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Automotive or Truck Certificates are desirable.
5 years’ experience as HD Truck mechanic.
Experience in wire and stick welding along with cutting and brazing.
Knowledge of all phases of service and maintenance to perform required repairs on various types of equipment.
Knowledge of the electrical and mechanical workings of hydraulics.
Mechanic must possess a complete set of standard tools and metric tools in accordance with the fleet department tool list.
Ability to perform basic mathematics and basic computer skills.
Possess and maintain a valid NC Class A Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsement and a safe driving record.
Live within 20 miles radius of assigned district except for “on-call” employees who have been approved with remote capabilities.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to implement work plans, make sound decisions from observations and carry out instructions.
Be a self-starter with an attitude of neatness, timeliness, orderliness, and accuracy.
Must be available to work in adverse weather conditions when necessary.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
